Aya

MFA Graduate Show, Bezalel Academy of Art & Design, Tel Aviv, 2018

In a room with two doors – entrance and exit, I have been standing in one spot for six hours a day for two and a half weeks. People enter one by one. And I do one action only: I say “Aya”. The frequency of times I say the word and its intensity are related to how the person in front of me moves. Every move they make, even the smallest one, is met with the echo of the word “Aya.” There is no endpoint to the work. Each one is allowed to stay in the room for as long as they decide. Some lasted even an hour. When leaving, the “Aya” increases and becomes a siren or a shout that remains with the person who has just left the room.
