I stroked Salame, I stroked Herzl

MFA Bezalel Academy of Art & Design, Tel Aviv, 2017

My studio was above the corner of Herzl & Salame Street. Daily, I felt the historical pain that this encounter signifies – the erasure of the Palestinian village Kfar Salame and Herzl Street, named after Theodor Herzl, the father of Zionism. As I walked the entire Herzel Street, I stroked its walls with my bare right hand; I did the same with my left hand in Salame St.; My hands were full of dust. Back in the studio, I stroked both my cheeks repeatedly in lamentation until my face turned black.
